Alabaster the Kymera by LastMorbidRose Alabaster the Kymera by LastMorbidRose
Almost every artist dreams of creating something original. Here on dA I see a lot of people creating original characters, myself being one of them. How original was my character, a black wolf with wings? Not at all, but it didn't make me love her less.

I dare you to find Alabaster elsewhere on the internet. I would say that by combining 33 animals I have created a truly original character!

In order to create Alabaster, I created this site and had people submit random animals. Once 40 people had submitted animals, I created a sculpture of a new animal that had parts from each of the animals people had posted.

In doing this project I realized I can achieve originality better when I work with others. No one lives in a void, and by talking to, and getting input from, as many people as possible, then we can make something truly unique.

Mixed Media Sculpture, painted with acrylic

PS- I called this Project Kymera, because since I was little I thought that's how Chimera should be spelled. So that childhood dream is now accomplished!

That is quite original - and that's a very difficult thing to achieve!

The Kymera (Chimera?) is supposed to be "an impossible beast" - and I think you've hit the target :)

Lol thanks!

At around 20 animals into this Chimera ( the project was called Kymera though) I wasn't sure how I would fit eh other 17 in... impossible feels about right lol

I know right, you and some others have inspired me, I mean seriously you just can't find figurines to your exact liking. I really think I will give this a try... I might make a raptor plushy with some of it sculpted or something because I love dinosaurs and all the dinosaurs I have are lame and some are inacurate.

Do it!! Its the best!
Plus, if you ever find a good figure, its always attached to a base... and thats no fun to play with -_-
I support plushy making! I can't anymore cause my sewing machine broke...
